Karrinyup Rotary – People of Action
Street Chaplains are non-denominational volunteers, who work on the streets of our city. They are ‘Good Samaritans,’ who provide crisis care unconditionally to any in need, offering compassion and practical help to all who need and want it especially the most vulnerable.
Some weeks ago, local Member for Carine, Tony Krsticevic MLA received a request for assistance from Street Chaplains, who were in need of a defibrillator, which would enable them to administer CPR, when they were required to deal with such emergencies.Since coming out of COVID-19 lockdown, Street Chaplains in Perth and the northern suburbs have dealt with a number of emergencies, which required the administering of CPR.
Their chaplains’ best efforts to revive the patients concerned could have been significantly hampered by the fact that there was no defibrillator available to them in the early hours of the morning.
They urgently needed a defibrillator that their chaplains could carry with them, as they walk the streets of Perth and this could literally become a matter of life and death.
Knowing them to be ‘People of Action’, Tony approached the Rotary Club of Karrinyup to request assistance. While this expense had not been budgeted, the Karrinyup Rotary Board considered it to be of high importance and resolved to make it happen.
Accordingly the required defibrillator was presented to Street Chaplains Co-Directors Rosemary Dugmore and Captain Simon Walker at the recent Karrinyup Rotary Club meeting. Tony Krsticevic was pleased to attend.
Rotary Club of Karrinyup President Richard Prunster said “The Rotary Club of Karrinyup is proud to be involved in such a worthy cause. This is Rotary in action and Rotary opening opportunities for those who need help when it matters”. – ENDS
