Recently the partnership between Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Rotary District 9455 to ‘Eradicate Melanoma Deaths’ through the Rotary for Melanoma Research (R4MR) project was formalised with the signing of an MOU. Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman and now Past District Governor Lindsay Dry signed the agreement in May, which commits each party to work together to assist in taking the great work undertaken by ECU Researcher Prof Mel Ziman (Rotarian) and her team to the community.

With a focus on raising community awareness through research of Melanoma, the long term objective of the parties will be growth of R4MR into a publicly recognised body like the Lions Eye Institute.

This significant undertaking has required the formation of a joint Board with ECU and from Rotary this initially comprises Jon Bilson (Bay View Claremont), Anthony McGrath (Dalkeith), Jean Ryan (Crawley) and from Rotaract - Samantha Fewster. This project began in 2015 through the Bay View Claremont Club and with the subsequent generous support of fellow Zone Clubs Nedlands, Matilda Bay, Crawley, Western Endeavour and Joondalup.
