The RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) camp in May is fast approaching!
If you know someone who is 14-17 years of age who is
· Wanting an opportunity to develop and challenge themselves
· Looking to develop their self-esteem and confidence
· Interested in developing skills including leadership, teamwork, communication, goal setting and problem solving
· Wanting to build a network of young people and to make new friends
· Excited for a weekend of fun
Then we'd love to have them attend the RYPEN camp from 19th to 21st May 2023.
RYPEN depends on Rotary Clubs to sponsor participants, and the more participants we get the better the camp will be. We would love to welcome your applicant to the camp.
We've got an exciting and challenging program lined up for the weekend, so if you know of someone who would like to attend please get your applications as soon as possible.

Interact youth stepped up and onto the runway at the Hyde Park Festival.
The Interact Club of Subiaco (Perth Modern School) partnered with John Curtin College of the Arts, the Rotary Club of North Perth, and Rotary Club of Perth to model pre-loved formal wear. The Path of Hope fashion show was held at the Hyde Park Festival on Sunday 5 March 2023 at 1 pm.
The 5 youth joined 15 Rotarians to showcase fabulous style at a great price. The high
school students coordinated trips to their local Salvos Subiaco and Salvos Fremantle to get fitted. The Path of Hope Foundation is a partnership between Rotary Club of Perth and Salvation Army to help women and children who are breaking the cycle of domestic violence. MC Jon Lewis showcased the fabulous deals the models got on gowns and suits from the Salvos Stores.

FISH’s mission is to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and break intergenerational cycles of trauma, poverty and engagement in the justice system. One of the ways we achieve this work is through our social enterprises.
Recently, Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding regions suffered the worst flood in the history of Western Australia and recovery will be a long hard road. FISH is there for the journey, and you could play a part in that work.

All the tools, colours, equipment, and bowl of jelly which will be your canvas, are included.
The teacher Melissa Dor from Rotary Elizabeth Quay will be showing you each step and there will be a helper wandering the floor to assist if you get stuck. Each participant gets 2 pre-made bowls of clear carrageenan jelly as their canvases and can choose 4 colours to create the flower art inside the bowl.
The finished jelly art is a colourful flower trapped inside a crystal dome. You will take home your jellies, 2 glass bowls to carry them in, and 1 set of jelly art tools, so you can keep this hobby going.

I Founded and chartered a total of 3 still active Rotary clubs. I request an invite to be a speaker at your club. I will be in the area March 21-April 25, on my drive to the next Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia via Argentina. A mission to unite Rotary for Organ Donation so NO ONE DIES WAITING FOR AN ORGAN.
Mission was kicked off at the 2022 Rotary International Convention in Houston by IPRI President Shekhar Mehta and the Next RI President Gordon. Driving about 40000 miles, my drive started in Bangalore, India. The Goal was to speak to 100 Rotary Clubs before I reach the next convention in May, 2023 and compete for India in the World Transplant games in Perth, Australia April 2023.

Transplant Australia are looking for volunteers to assist with the World Transplant Games to be held in Perth
What’s required to be a volunteer?
There are some basic eligibility requirements you must meet to be a volunteer. Preference will be given to volunteers who are able to commit to at least three shifts.
Applicants must:
Be available between 15-21 April 2023 as a minimum.
Be aged 18 or over at the commencement of the Games. Children aged 14-18 can be involved with parental supervision.
Have valid and acceptable photo identification documents.

2022 in review
For polio eradication efforts, 2022 brought good news. Fewer genetic strains of the virus are circulating than ever before. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries where polio remains endemic. And support from political, medical, and community leaders in those areas has strengthened vaccination efforts during the past year.
Global support for polio eradication also reached new heights, as was proven at the World Health Summit in October, when Rotary and international partners and donors pledged a combined US$2.6 billion to eradicate the disease.
There were challenges in 2022 as well. The poliovirus appeared in places it hasn’t been for a long time: Israel, the United Kingdom, and the United States, to name a few. Wild poliovirus cases were reported in Mozambique, related to the 2021 case in Malawi caused by wild poliovirus imported from Pakistan. News of these cases didn’t slow our eradication efforts, however. If anything, it made us even more determined. Now is our best chance to finish the fight against polio.
In 2023, we need everyone’s help. We invite you to use the call to action “Together, we end polio” to express our collective will to finish the job. Explore the shareable images, ads, and other materials on Rotary’s Brand Center, and check again throughout the year, because we’ll add even more content. Let’s work together to end this disease forever.
Promote the power of vaccines for World Immunization Week this April
With decades of experience in polio eradication, Rotary members play a key role in publicizing the power of vaccines. In part because Rotary members and partners have worked so hard to counteract vaccine hesitancy and reach all children with the polio vaccine, we’ve immunized billions of children against the disease.
World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, is an opportunity for Rotary and Rotaract clubs to spread the message that vaccines save lives. It’s critical to continue polio vaccinations for children around the world and to advocate for COVID-19 vaccinations for all.
Rotary’s PolioPlus program integrates polio immunization work and efforts to provide basic services, such as access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Because poliovirus is transmitted through contaminated water, improving water quality, in addition to vaccinating people, is critical to stopping its spread. When we address a community’s basic needs, we also build goodwill and trust that support our polio vaccination campaigns.
§ Bloomberg News, an international news agency, quoted Carol Pandak, Rotary’s director of PolioPlus, in a piece that emphasized the fact that if polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. The article also highlights Rotary’s role in inspiring the start of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
§ Punch, a national Nigerian daily newspaper, published an opinion piece by Rotarian Kunle Adeyanju, who rode a motorbike from London to Lagos to raise awareness of the need to end polio.
§ Der Tagesspiegel, a national German daily newspaper, featured PolioPlus National Advocacy Adviser Anne von Fallois in connection with the funding commitment event at the World Health Summit in Berlin.
§ Financial Times quoted Carol Pandak noting that polio anywhere is a threat everywhere in an article published on 23 October.
§ Fox 32 (Chicago) conducted a live, in-studio interview with polio survivor Ina Pinkney for World Polio Day. Pinkney stressed the importance of vaccination, noting that polio is 100% preventable and 100% incurable.
§ NEWS CENTER Maine (NBC affiliate) interviewed polio survivor Ann Lee Hussey about her work to immunize children and featured Rotary information and hyperlinks, teasing World Polio Day. More recently, Hussey was featured on Maine Calling, a live call-in program, along with Janell Routh (epidemiologist, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Dora Anne Mills (chief health improvement officer, MaineHealth), to share her experiences as a polio survivor and Rotary member.
Support polio vaccines for children

Earlier this week RAWCS commenced fundraising activities to support the impacted communities resulting from the New Zealand Floods. Unfortunately, in recent days the floods have worsened due to the impact of cyclone Gabrielle.
RAWCS is calling on Rotarians to support our New Zealand neighbours by donating to the New Zealand appeal (details below). By contributing to the RAWCS appeal Australian Rotarians can receive a tax deduction and support our neighbours who have been an amazing support in recent years when Australians were in need with floods, fire and drought.
“The money raised from the Appeals will go directly and quickly to support those impacted, providing essential items and financial support to supplement the funds that are being provided by World Governments,” said Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd CEO Andrew Woodward. Another large earthquake hit Türkiye
and Syria 22 February
Once again, people are trapped under rubble as homes that were weakened by the earlier earthquakes came tumbling down. For those that survived the first earthquakes, last night’s tremors would have been traumatising, awakening a fresh round of fear.
Our emergency teams on the ground in Türkiye are safe and we are determined to keep doing everything we can to make sure people get the aid they need.

We are getting aid into Türkiye and Syria as quickly as we can, working with local agencies and partners including Rotary.
Tents have already arrived in Türkiye, thermal blankets have arrived in Syria, and we’re expecting more aid – including mattresses and tents – to arrive in Syria soon.
The donation form does not have to be completed and sent but Shelterbox do ask that clubs email Virginia Pieper details of the donation so it is credited to the correct club and district.
