The Congdon project is really speeding along.
However, with Christmas on the doorstep, the building industry goes a bit crazy, because so many people want work ‘done before Christmas’.
Eighteen older women at risk of homelessness will move into brand new North Fremantle homes in March 2023. “My Home” is an extraordinary and immediate response to the housing crisis. The innovative project brings together private enterprise, government and community members to build small, low-impact homes using Passivhaus design principles. This Fremantle initiative is exciting, alive and almost complete.
Many organisations are involved pro bono. Whilst Rotary’s role is to furnish these homes, it is now time to make them more personal and homely with bedding, linen, towels, kitchen equipment and the like. There is now the opportunity for personal donations both large and small. Tenants will live in the houses for as long as required to regain independence and confidence. For many, their “My Home” house will be their forever home.
The Community Housing Provider St Pats will manage the sensitive allocation of homes to their new residents based on Housing First principles. The process targets those most in need but ensures that there will be a mix of tenants, who will contribute to the overall well-being and success of individual residents.
St Pats provides property and tenancy management services and provides a link to any support services required to help the residents manage their lives and integrate into the community.
How can you help Rotary turn a house into a home?
- Talk about Rotary’s action on homelessness with friends and colleagues
- Download and share the My Home Brochure with friends and colleagues
- Encourage donations via “My Home” website. Click on Donations via RAWCS
- Increase awareness of the project by posting on Facebook (follow Rotary supporting “My Home”) and Linked-In
At this stage Michelle is aiming for:-
1. Practical Completion by builder: end of January
2. Landscaping: February
3. Rotary fit out of furnishings and homewares: end February
4. Occupancy: March

Escalating Flood Crisis
RAWCS is responding to the unfolding, escalating flood crisis by maintaining our National Flood Appeal through the Rotary Australia Relief Fund (RARF) and by opening Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) projects specific to each flood affected area (these areas could grow as flood waters move downstream).
Funds raised to date have been directed through local Rotary Clubs to providing $500 Rotary Relief Vouchers to those whose homes are uninhabitable and require immediate assistance. This is the preferred option of RAWCS and is the most appropriate use of donated funds in assisting the flood affected communities.
- RAWCS is seeking the support of Districts & local Rotary Clubs to assist in the distribution of these relief vouchers within the affected communities.
- To provide the full benefit to these floods affected communities RAWCS is seeking financial donations from Rotary Districts, Clubs, individuals, businesses and public to support these projects using the RAWCS website project search and donate directly to the individual project using the on-line donation link https://rawcs.org.au/disasters/

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE POLIOPLUS SOCIETY
The PolioPlus Society is a program that began in Oregon, USA in 2012 and is now being used successfully by Districts in North America, Brazil and The Philippines.
What is the PolioPlus Society?
To increase sustainable giving, the PolioPlus Society (PPS) encourages Rotarians to commit to a minimum of $US100 per year to the PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated from the face of the earth. Society members receive a special PPS pin and a certificate.
The original District, D.5110, that came up with the concept currently has 800 Rotarians signed up as members of the PolioPlus Society. That means that they can count on those PPS members giving a minimum of $80,000 annually, until the virus is gone! Worldwide there are now around 5000 members.
Contact District 9455 PolioPlus Society Chair,
Paul Gianatti, paulg@pacflex.com.au if you have any queries.
