National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW are the same each year; 27 May to 3 June.
A number of Rotary members assisted with the event and enjoyed the opportunity to both contribute to the success of the event while learning more about our shared histories, cultures and achievements.
Science and Engineering
Volunteer Request
Creating a hovercraft, constructing an earthquake proof tower, or building a bionic hand are among the challenges hundreds of Year 10 and Year 5/6 students will be trying their hands at in the upcoming Science and Engineering Challenge & Discovery Days.
The Challenge and Discovery Days are run by The University of Newcastle and Rotary Clubs around Australia, and has proved highly successful in inspiring students who are making subject selections to consider a future career in Science and Engineering.
You do not need a STEM background, just enthusiasm! In a team of 2/3 people you will facilitate one hands-on STEM activity for up to 32 year 5/6 students as per the instruction sheet provided when you volunteer. You will brief the students of the aims and rules by reading from the activity checklist provided.

Jeff Leach and Matthew Pham are participating in this year's Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday evening, 23rd June at Optus Stadium. This will be Matthew's 6th time doing the event whilst it'll be the 11th occasion for Jeff.
They are looking to raise money and awareness for the homeless people in Australia. Currently there are over 116,000 Australians who are homeless, of which over 9,000 are in Western Australia. They're sleeping out in the cold in hopes that others don't have to and to break the cycle of homelessness.
