2019 Scholarship recipient Kim Kilov with Jim Joseph, President of the Sponsor Rotary Club of Scarborough, WA.  Kim will study for a Masters program in Global Health at the Karolinska Institute Stockholm, Sweden.
 
Rotary District 9455 supports the Global Grant Scholarship Program of The Rotary Foundation and subject to the availability of funds may offer one Global Grant Scholarship in 2020 to a Scholar selected from a competitive interview process of eligible applicants.  In the event that funds are available, this scholarship program would be  funded by a District 9455 grant which is matched by the Rotary Foundation. 
 
Although the District 9455 Foundation Committee recommends a candidate for a Scholarship, the ultimate approval decision rests with The Rotary Foundation.
Scholar Applicants must be sponsored by a Western Australian Rotary Club. The club will assess candidate’s suitability based on and interview and the completed application form which they will pass to the District 9455 Committee.
 
Scholarship Conditions
Applications are invited from outstanding candidates who currently live (or normally reside) in District 9455 in Western Australia. The scholarship is awarded through a globally competitive process.  Relevant Scholarship conditions include but are not limited to:
  • An amount up to a maximum of US$30,000 (at District 9455 discretion) depending on country, study institution, length of course of study and upon availability of District Designated Funds.
  • Must be aligned to one or more Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus.
  • Must be for overseas study at a post-graduate level at an accredited overseas recognised university or institution.
  • The course and or level of study must not be available in Australia.
  • Scholar must provide confirmation of admission to their selected university or institution.
  • The period of study may be used to contribute towards gaining a higher degree or qualification.
  • Applicant must not have commenced the proposed year of study at their selected university or institution prior to applying for the scholarship.
  • Applicant must be proficient in the language of instruction of the host country.
  • The applicant must not be a Rotarian or a lineal descendant of a Rotarian.
  • During the course of study Scholars are required to interact with local Rotarians and Rotary clubs and should always be mindful that they serve in the role of ambassadors of Australia, Rotary International, District 9455 and to the community where they will be studying and travelling.
Applicant Eligibility
In addition to the Scholarship Conditions, we are seeking outstanding candidates with the following attributes:
  • Proven record of well above average success in their academic field or vocation.
  • An undergraduate degree with well above average scores.
  • Commitment to a career in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus.
  • Must not have commenced the proposed course of study at their selected university prior to applying for the scholarship.  It is the scholar’s responsibility to gain confirmation of admission to their selected university before the Global Grant will be awarded.
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to community service.
  • Personal qualities to be a good ambassador for Rotary and Australia.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills and potential.
  • Well-defined and realistic goals.
  • Concrete ideas for advancing within their chosen field.
  • Commitment to participate in Rotary activities during the term of the scholarship.
  • Be able to fund the gap between the total cost of the study / living expenses and scholarship funding.
  • Sincerity and commitment to joining and maintaining a lifelong relationship with Rotary and the Rotary Alumni Assn after the scholarship period.
Exclusions
The Applicant cannot be: (1) a Rotarian; (2) an employee of a club, district, or other Rotary entity, or of Rotary International; (3) the spouse, a lineal descendant (child or grandchild by blood or stepchild, legally adopted or not), the spouse of a lineal descendant, or an ancestor (parent or grandparent by blood) of any person in the foregoing two categories. These conditions are more fully outlined in the Global Grant Scholarship Application Form.

District 9455 clubs advertise the grant opportunity and develop a committee for accepting, reviewing and interviewing scholarship applicants according to Global Grant Scholarship Guidelines.
 
Clubs may submit to the District Scholarship Committee applications of proposed candidates who they believe best meet the goals and selection criteria of the Global Grants Scholarship

By this date, Rotary Clubs must submit to the District 9455 Scholarship Committee Chair the application from their proposed candidate, including resumes and official academic university transcripts.
 
Applications must be received by the Chair of District 9455 Global Grant Scholar Committee by no later than 31 March, 2020 (Northern Hemisphere) or 30 September 2020 (Southern Hemisphere).

This will involve an on-line application process by the candidate with the assistance of the District Committee. The application cannot proceed unless the candidate has been accepted into the proposed course of study.
